Jeffrey Halbstein-Harris – USA • Greater Carolinas 2025
“To heal without judging those receiving my healing by modeling empathy and compassion and using all my heart, talent, and skills.”
For more than four decades, Jeffrey has devoted his life to serving people living at the intersection of chronic illness, addiction, poverty, trauma, and social isolation. He grew up in a chaotic world of addiction that led to self-medication with drugs and alcohol, “blessed by recovery at 31.” Now, in his 38th year of sobriety, he initiated in the ManKind Project in 2001 at Bullard Farm, NH. Through his heart-centered work in Wake County, NC, and Healing Transitions, he has been instrumental in evolving peer-ed overdose prevention and care coordination initiatives into integrated community models serving highly vulnerable individuals with substance use disorders, homelessness, complex medical conditions, and trauma. Jeffrey’s work consistently emphasizes dignity, relationship-continuity, mindfulness, recovery, and practical compassion. People once homeless and addicted are now serving as peer counselors.
